Master of Arts in Education, major in Educational Leadership and Management
(Thesis Program, MAEDELM)
The program provides students with knowledge, competencies, values, and skills required in leading and managing their schools effectively and efficiently and for the pursuit of further studies. At the end of their course work, students are required to write and defend a thesis that would enhance the practice of educational leadership and management and contribute to new knowledge in the field.
PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES
Graduates of Master of Arts in Education, major in Educational Leadership and Management are expected to possess the following Lasallian attributes, namely:

- Apply content knowledge and leadership skills to promote the educational institution鈥檚 growth and attainment of its vision and mission.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Admission to programs offered by the Department of Educational Leadership and Management is on a selective basis. In general, only those students who can profit from graduate work and are able to successfully comply with prescribed requirements for graduation shall be considered.
The following factors are considered in the admission process:
- GPA of at least 85% in the bachelor鈥檚 degree.
- Entrance exam results
- Potential for graduate work and educational leadership based on results of interview

- 听12 units of professional education courses for non- Teacher Education graduates
- English (ENG501M / ENG502M and/ or ENGFO1M/ ENGFO2M) –Must pass the admission essay test to be exempted
- Basic Statistics (EDM5202)- Must pass the admission subject test to be exempted

Additional six (6) units of Advanced Technical Reading and Writing 1 and 2 will be required for applicants with a low score in the essay part of the entrance examination.
*The student must have at least one publication in a refereed journal. The publication date must be within the student鈥檚 residency in the program. The published article should bear the name of 开元真人as the student鈥檚 institutional affiliation.
BASIC/FOUNDATION COURSES (9 units + 1)
ELM 510M听 听EDUCATIONAL STATISTICS (3 units)
The course deals with general concepts of statistical methods of educational managers: descriptive statistics, normal distribution, estimation/sampling theory, hypothesis testing, correlation/regression theory, analysis of variance, analysis of covariance, non-parametric tests, and application of computers to statistics. Knowledge of basic statistics is a prerequisite.听
ELM520M听 听METHODS OF RESEARCH (3 units)
This course deals with the study of the fundamentals of research designs, types of research, techniques and procedures for data-gathering, analysis and interpretation.听
EDM683M听 听EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT IN THE NEW ECONOMY (3 units)
This course presents prospective school leaders with a fuller understanding of the theories of organization, leadership, and management and approaches in managing organizational behavior in the contemporary Philippine setting.
EDM535M.听听LASALLIAN PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION (1 unit)
The course helps students to acquire an understanding of St. John Baptist De La Salle’s life, work, writings and charism in order for the student to make De La Salle’s spirit come alive in contemporary education.

EDM541M听 听INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP听 (3 units)
The course deals with the nature, process and general approaches to the supervision of instruction and implementation of instructional programs.
EDM591M听 听CURRICULUM ENGINEERING听 (3 units)
The course deals with the principles, design and processes of curriculum development, and change, materials development, and evaluation of teaching-learning outcomes.
EDM682M听 听FISCAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT (3 units)
This course is intended to provide the students with an understanding of their concepts of education finance and how these concepts are applied in practice. Included in the course is a basic introduction to the economics of education, presentation and discussion of local, national and private methods of financing education, and overview of general budgeting and accounting procedures common in educational institutions.
EDM685M听 听HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT (3 units)
The course focuses on the roles and functions of human resource management in the school setting, specifically on the recruitment, development, compensation, and evaluation of human resources. Consideration is given to the environment of schools and their need for greater resource productivity and organizational effectiveness.听
EDM713M听 听TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATIONAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS (3 units)
It is a study of the use and applications of technology in educational management. Covers emerging trends, e.g. end user computing experts system, MIS planning, and the use of MIS to achieve the competitive edge, technology enabled educational delivery system.
EDM740M听 听LEGAL ASPECTS OF EDUCATION (3 units)
The course is intended for educational administrators, at whatever level of the school organization, who need to be exposed to, know and understand the laws and regulations affecting the organization and operation of private educational institutions. This course is not intended to be a law subject. Thus, the course is designed for the educational administrators as legal neophytes who should account for the legal aspects in decision making.
INTEGRATING COURSE (3 units)
EDM805M听 听SEMINAR ON RENEWAL AND CHANGE IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS听(3 units)
The course will provide a forum for students to synthesize and apply concepts, theories, and principles learned in the major courses in formulating a strategic plan aimed at institutional renewal and change.

It involves the development of a research topic, presenting topic, presenting the thesis proposal, conducting the study, and presenting the results and oral defense.
