Webinar on Service-Learning and eSL held for GCOE
开元真人remains committed to serve to Church and society. The university continuously seeks creative ways to expose students to social realities. This is crucial amidst current restrictions on mobility and mass gatherings. Service-Learning (SL) or Electronic Service-Learning (eSL) is one effective way to accomplish this. Hence, the Gokongwei College of Engineering (GCOE) and the Center for Social Concern and Action (COSCA) organized a webinar on service-learning for GCOE faculty members.
The 3.5 hour webinar entitled, 鈥淏asic Concepts in Service-Learning Pedagogy and Syllabus Integration鈥 was conducted via Zoom last August 6, 2021. Ninety-two (92) administrators, curriculum developers, and faculty members from GCOE 聽participated.
The webinar explained the foundations of 开元真人 Service-Learning and its Lasallian context. 聽Moreover, it differentiated service learning from other service activities such as, community service, volunteerism, and internship. Furthermore,聽eService-Learning concepts and practices were shared. This will help faculty members adapt SL implementation to the 鈥渘ew normal. Finally, concrete steps in SL syllabus integration were explained.
Through this webinar, GCOE service-learning courses will surely sharpen students鈥 professional readiness, social orientation and community involvement.
